80 Zambians make it to Poland, ahead of evacuation on Friday

Eighty (80) Zambian nationals have so far been successfully evacuated to the Polish capital Warsaw from Ukraine of the 114 nationals earmarked for evacuation.

In a ministerial statement to Parliament on the Zambian nationals in Ukraine, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation Stanley Kakubo says most of those evacuated to Poland so far are students.

Mr Kakubo adds that a few students have also been evacuated through other countries including Romania and Hungary.

He says 14 Zambian nationals are currently in transit from different parts of Ukraine and that government is in constant touch with them and monitoring their movements to ensure safe passage for them.

Mr Kakubo further states that a further 14 Zambians national are still held up in a city called Sumy, located on the western side of Ukraine close to the Russian border and the area is considered a high risk area.

He says it is anticipated that those evacuated to Poland will be flown back home by Friday, 4th March,2022.

And Mr. Kakubo has revealed that President Hichilema will this evening address the evacuated students and their parents via the Zoom platform.
