Environmentalist, William Harrington has called for the signing and issuance of a Statutory Instrument to effect the decision by government to re-gazette Forest reserve no.27 in Lusaka east.

Recently, Green Economy and Environment Minister Collins Nzovu told Parliament that government will repossess the controversial Forest 27 in Lusaka where development projects are being undertaken.

Mr Harrington has since welcomed the government decision to repossess Forest reserve no.27.

He has since called on the government through the Attorney General to start preparing a Statutory Instrument for signing and issuance by President Hichilema as a matter of urgency.

Mr Harrington, however, states that in the absence of a Statutory Instrument, the Minister’s statement remains a mere decree.

Mr Harrington tells Q-News that the local community through the Chalimbana river community Trust have petitioned President Hichilema to revoke or repeal the Statutory Instrument that was issued by former President Edgar Lungu degazetting the forest reserve.
