World Wildlife Fund WWF has proposed that government allocates at least 30 percent of the national budget for 2022 to climate change programs in various ministries such as agriculture, green economy and environment.

WWF country director Nachilala Nkombo has asked government to consider moving away from budgeting for disaster management to building resilience, mitigation and adaption to climate change.

Ms Nkombo tells q news that if the government continues with the trajectory of over dependence on donor aid to supporting programs against the effects of climate change, Zambia may be heading for a huge disaster.

She is therefore of the view that government must decentralize funding to programs aimed at building resilience, mitigation and adaption to climate change especially in sectors such as tourism, forestry and agriculture.
