Assets recovery to continue -Veep

Vice President Mutale Nalumango says the recovery and forfeiture of proceeds of crime to the State will continue as provided for in Section 80 of the Anti-Corruption Act No.3 of 2012.

Mrs Nalumango has since encouraged those from the previous regime who might be in possession of proceeds of crime to forward and surrender such in accordance with Section 80 of the Anti-Corruption Act No.3 of 2012 and avoid prosecution.

Responding to a questioning by Zambezi East Member of Parliament Brian Kambita during the vice president’s question time who wanted to find out how much government has targeted to recover of the plundered resources; Mrs Nalumango says those who know that they acquired certain things illegally should come forward.

She says those who illegally acquired property or money should quickly declare to avoid the lengthy litigation process.

Yesterday, the Anti Corruption Commission announced that it has taken possession of the K65 million and US$57,000 recovered from Lusaka Journalist Faith Musonda’s house in New Kasama.

The state has also seized the house in which the money was found.     

And the Vice President says the debt swap recovery on civil servants has been suspended.

Mrs Nalumango says there will be no more deductions from owing civil servants who were affected and that all those affected will be refunded before the November salaries.The Vice President was responding to Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Brian Mundubile who wanted to know what permanent solution government has for the civil servants as
