Vice President Mutale Nalumango says there is need to reconsider conducting scaled-up traffic checks to enforce adherence to traffic regulations.

Mrs. Nalumango said this is because public transport drivers have a tendency of disregarding traffic rules and regulations with impunity.

She recalled that there was an outcry of too many roadblocks by the members of the public.

She said government therefore reduced the presence of traffic police and Road Transport and Safety Agency (RSTA) officers on the roads.

Mrs. Nalumango said the removal of many roadblocks will have to be reconsidered to place routine checks on public roads and ensure that drivers adhere to the regulations.

The Vice President said this at the burial of nine victims of the Chingwere accident this morning.

And Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata warned that careless driving will not be condoned in the region.

Mrs. Mulyata stated that those found wanting will be dealt with.

Meanwhile, Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo said nine of the accident victims were from her constituency.

Ms. Masebo, who is also Minister of Health, commended government for adopting the funerals by providing support to the bereaved families.

The nine people who died in a road traffic accident at Chingwere turnoff last Saturday were put to rest at Mutumbi cemetery today.
