Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Garry Nkombo, has condemned the violence that took place at Kasempa town council on 7th October, 2021 involving a group of political cadres.

Mr. Nkombo is saddened by the uncalled for behavior by cadres that disrupted the peaceful work atmosphere at the Civic Centre in their quest to remove some Council Management members and some employees, suspected to be members of the previous administration.

The Minister is further disappointed that Police in Kasempa failed to arrest any of the cadres when it was clear that such an action was out of order as it could create a hostile working environment for the Council employees.

He has implored individuals aggrieved with any issue to firmly follow correct procedures or submit petitions where necessary, through relevant channels without taking the law in their own hands.

Mr Nkombo has since asked the affected officers at Kasempa Town Council to report back for work.

He has further called upon the Police to act professionally and bring to book all those involved for taking the law in their own hands by locking the Civic Centre gate.

The United Party for National Development (UPND) in Kasempa through constituency youth chairperson, Elion Kashala last week petitioned the removal of top management at Kasempa town council over non-disclosure of revenue and allegations that there has been mismanagement of funds at the local authority.
