Minister of green economy and environment Collins Nzovu has underscored the commitment the new dawn government attaches to the execution of environmental sustainability policies that will yield dividends to the country for generations to come.

Speaking when he met with the World Bank country manager for Zambia, Dr. Sahr John Kpundeh, Mr Nzovu says government, this year updated and submitted to the United Nations framework convention on climate change (UNFCCC), its nationally determined contribution (NDC) to the Paris Agreement.

He explains that the updated NDC has broadened the scope of sectors under mitigation by adding transport, liquid waste and coal, adding that the adaptation component of the NDC has been elaborated by developing indicators that will enable the country track progress on building resilience in both the human and physical systems and on adaptation actions.

Mr. Nzovu says environmental sustainability is a key pillar of the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP) which is being developed for implementation in the period 2022 to 2026.

He cites Mainstreaming of Green Growth, Renewable energy, Sustainable Forest Management and Sustainable Agriculture among other as specific areas of priority for the new dawn Government to mainstream in plans, programmes and policies at national and sub-national levels.
