Vice President Mutale Nalumango says the decision by President Hakainde Hichilema to bring the Anti Corruption Commission, Drug Enforcement Commission and the Financial Intelligence Centre under the office of the President does not mean daily interference in the operations of these institutions.

Responding to a question by leader of the opposition in the house Brian Mundubile who wanted to know what was the motivation by the President to depart from the conventional way of fighting corruption through independent anti corruption bodies and bring the institutions under his office, Mrs Nalumango says the fact that these institution fall under the supervision of the president does not mean taking away their independence in operations.

She says the President has committed himself that the three institutions will continue to fight crime independently without any invincible finger in their operations.

Asked by Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo how the three institutions’ autonomy will be guaranteed by falling under the office of the President, Mrs Nalumango reemphasized that the UPND administration has no intention to interfere in the operations of the three institutions.

Under Statutory Instrument no.1123 of 2021, the ACC, DEC and FIC will now fall under the office of the President.
