President Hakainde Hichilema has bemoaned the failure to follow the procurement procedures as disclosed in the Auditor General’s report for the financial year ending 2020.

President Hichilema said it is regrettable that there was wasteful expenditure in the country.

The President said this through his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Antony Bwalya during a media briefing at State House today.

Mr. Bwalya explained that the Head of State is concerned that the country is losing a lot of money in key sectors of the economy.

He has since urged procurement officers to ensure that all public procurement of goods and services meet the stipulated criteria and in compliance with the Cabinet circular on procurement.

He said the procurement guidelines must be followed while goods must be of the right price, recommended quality and delivery of services must be timely.

Meanwhile President Hichilema will tomorrow, Thursday, October 7,2021 re-launch the Covid-19 national vaccination program at the Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC)in Lusaka aimed at encouraging more citizens to get vaccinated.

Presidential advisor on COVID-19 Professor Roma Chilengi has disclosed during a media briefing at State House that President Hichilema believes the previous vaccination program was not effective as seen from the low numbers of people vaccinated with only 3% of the entire population vaccinated.

Professor Chilengi says it is for this reason that the President has decided to have the national vaccination program re-launched with a new and effective strategy that will see more citizens voluntarily vaccinated.

He has stressed that it is time to be affirmative to the response to COVID-19.

Professor Chilengi says vaccination is the hope the country has in mitigating the fourth wave anticipated in December 2021.

The presidential Covid-19 advisor has since appealed to citizens above the age of 18 to ensure they get vaccinated.
