Govt will not be rushed into enacting ATI Bill, insists Kasolo

Government has insisted it will not be rushed into tabling the Access to Information Bill in Parliament for enactment into law.

Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says he personally does not want to produce a Bill that is full of lacunas.

Mr. Kasolo has charged that officials from his Ministry who have been working on the Bill are not buffoons to present a half backed piece of legislation for enactment in Parliament.

In an interview with QTV News, Mr. Kasolo states that to this effect, his Ministry has passed on the draft Bill to the Ministry of Justice to thoroughly examine the proposed legislation.

Mr. Kasolo says once the Ministry of Justice has examined the Bill it will be referred back to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting before it is tabled in Cabinet.

He says his Ministry is therefore expecting to be in possession of the Access to Information Bill in March 2019.
