UPND retains Sesheke Parliamentary seat

The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has won the Sesheke Parliamentary by- election.

UPND candidate Romeo Kang’ombe has polled 7, 768 votes from provisional results collected from 35 out of the existing 43 polling stations in constituency.

Returning Officer Joseph Kanyembo has declared Mr. Kang’ombe as winner of the election after ascertaining that results from the remaining 8 polling stations will have no effect on the outcome of election.

Mr. Kan’gombe’s closest rival was the ruling Patriotic Front’s Dean Masule who got 3, 297 votes from the 35 out of the 43 polling stations.

The PF candidate was followed by United Prosperous & Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) candidate Victor Kayukwa with 141 votes ahead of Alliance for Change (PAC) candidate Charity Muhau who was the least with 137 votes.

The total number of votes cast is was 11, 419 and the rejected ballots are 76.

The Sesheke Parliamentary Seat fail vacant following the death of the then area Member of Parliament Patrick Kufakwandi who died in South Africa following an illness.
