Changala urges Zambians to rise against statutory media regulation

Zambians have been called upon not to allow a situation where government antagonizes the media through statutory regulation.

Civil rights activist Brebner Changala is urging people in the Country against taking indications from government that it will regulate the media as mere threats.

Mr. Changala says such threats should be taken seriously with a sense of urgency and the realization that without a free press, Zambia’s democracy will be buried.

In an interview with QTV News, Mr. Changala says he has already taken note that both the Judiciary and the Legislature are under siege and can no longer keep the Executive in check.

Mr. Changala states that this explains why the Executive appears to be insolently on the loose as evidenced by how it is able to do whatever it wants at will.

And Mr. Changala has described the verbal attack by Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Mwila on journalists from Prime TV station as barbaric.

He has also described the expulsion of Bahati Member of Parliament Harry Kalaba from the PF as a mark of intimidation and intolerance on the part of the ruling party
