Sitibekiso Wamuyuwa – SESTUZ Secretary General

The Secondary Schools Teachers Union of Zambia (SESTUZ)has called on stakeholders in the education sector to sit down and analyze the grade 12 2018 examinations.

Union General Secretary Sitibekiso Wamuyuwa has expressed disappointment with the drop pass rate of pupils who sat for the 2018 grade 12 examinations.

Mr. Wamuyuwa has observed that although there is an increase in the number of pupils who sat for the examinations, the results are unimpressive.

He says the examinations have revealed that there is lack of investments in mathematics and science technology in the country as evidenced from the number of pupils who managed to get certificates.

Mr. Wamuyuwa has emphasized the need for government to invest more in science and mathematics following the poor results in subjects.

He has told q-news that the 2018 examination academic year shows the need for government to consider recruiting more teachers in science and mathematics.

A total of 75, 738 candidates out of 119,383 candidates who sat for the 2018 grade 12 examinations obtained full certificates.
