Natural power energy drink probe still ongoing – ZABS

The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) says investigations into the Natural Power SX energy drink are still ongoing.

Recently, the Ndola City Council, the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) and the Zambia Medicine Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) ordered an immediate stop to the production and sell of Natural Power Energy Drink after it was banned by the Uganda National Drug Authority and Uganda Bureau of Standards on the basis that it contains sildenafil citrate (Viagra) which is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men and pulmonary hypertension.

This was after a Ugandan national reportedly suffered a six-hour erection after taking the drink.

ZABS Marketing and Public Relations Officer Nzali Chella says ZABS together with Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority are still investigating the matter so as to ascertain the claims made about the product.

Ms Chellah has told Q-News that once the investigations are completed, the public will be informed of the findings.

Ms. Chellah has since appealed to members of the public to exercise patience as investigations are being conducted.
