IBA should also regulate ZNBC – Kasolo

Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo

Government has announced intentions to change the law so that the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) can begin to regulate ZNBC.

Newly appointed Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says it is mediocrity for the IBA to fail to license ZNBC.

Mr. Kasolo says his Ministry wants this mediocrity to be undone by ensuring that the IBA plays its role fully and license ZNBC just like it regulates other broadcasting media houses.

Speaking at his inaugural media briefing shortly before assuming office in Lusaka, Mr. Kasolo disclosed that discussions to effect this change as quickly as possible have since began.

And Mr. Kasolo has further warned that if media institutions in the Country do not regulate themselves, government will have to regulate them.

He states that his Ministry will no longer tolerate any media institution that, for example, breaks the law by insulting the Head of State.
