Engage in value addition, EL urges companies

President Edgar Lungu has replaced Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary Julius Shawa whose contract was not renewed with former Zambia National Farmers’ Union Executive Director Songowayo Zyambo.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony at State House, President Lungu has urged Mr. Zyambo to work closely with key private players in the Agriculture sector in order to increase production.

President Lungu has expressed optimism that the new Permanent Secretary’s experience in the agriculture sector will help him handle challenges facing the sector.

And speaking after being sworn-in, Mr. Zyambo says he will endeavor to consult extensively on requisites of the Agriculture sector.

Mr. Zyambo has thanked President Lungu for showing confidence in him by appointing him to the position of Permanent Secretary.

Meanwhile President Lungu has appealed to companies in the country to engage in business that creates employment and value addition.

Speaking when Trade Kings management paid a courtesy call on him, President Lungu has encouraged Trade Kings to ensure that the value chains incorporate people to create employment as well as wealth.

And Trade Kings Executive Technical Director Julius Kaoma has told President Lungu that the company intends to increase its production of steel from 240 metric tons to 1 million metric tons.

And speaking to Journalists, Presidential Press aide Amos Chanda disclosed that President Lungu has directed the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry to look into all the challenges hindering Trade Kings’ plans to expand its operations.
