Presidency clarifies budget allocation for new State House

The Presidency has clarified that the money allocated in the 2019 National Budget for a new State House is not for the actual construction works.

Presidential Affairs Minister Freedom Sikazwe says the money is meant for planning purposes to ascertain the feasibility of constructing a new State House.

Mr. Sikazwe, who is also Mpulungu Member of Parliament, has told QTV News by telephone that land where the new State House will be built has not yet been agreed upon.

He states that once land has been secured or Cabinet decides that a new State House be built within the premises of the current one, such a decision will be made known to the Zambian people.

And Mr. Sikazwe says in approving the proposal to construct a new State House, Cabinet took into consideration the announced austerity measures.

He states that Cabinet will not therefore approve the construction of a new State House if such an undertaking will constrain government financially.
