Do not grant bond to GBV perpetrators, Phiri tells police

Minister of Gender Elizabeth Phiri has appealed to the Zambia Police Service not to grant bond to perpetrators of Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases.

Mrs. Phiri says there is need for Police Officers to take cases of GBV seriously if any occurrences of such vices are to be halted.

She says Police should ensure the cases reach their logical conclusion by refusing to accept any attempts by victims to withdraw them.

The Gender Minister is disappointed that many victims go on to withdraw GBV cases leaving the perpetrator to go scot free.

Mrs. Phiri said this in response to Veronica Mwamba’s relatives at Kanyama First Level Hospital where they had rushed her after she fail victim of GBV at the hands of her husband.

Mwamba is said to have been beaten by her husband after she hid part of the family money for fear that the husband would use all of it on alcohol consumption.
