The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has charged that Zambians risk being squatters in their own country if the country’s land administration challenges are not addressed.

FODEP Executive Director Chimfwembe Mweenge notes that there is a golden rush for Africa’s natural resources, Zambia inclusive by people with money for the sole purpose of making multiple profits.

Mr. Mweenge has told QTV News in an interview that while the country needs foreign direct investment (FDI), there is need for government to address land matters with the seriousness they deserve.

He states that government needs to be cautious as it issues land for investment to foreign nationals so as to avert political or governance repurcations that may arise in future.

The FODEP Executive Director has since advised government to ensure land is used in a manner that will be a blessing to the country and not a curse.

Mr. Mweenge says the development of land as a resource should also ensure that all Zambians are involved.
