Chief Chikanta opposes Govts decision to relocate his subjects

Chief-Chikanta2Chief Chikanta of the Tonga speaking people in Kalomo District has opposed government’s decision to relocate his subjects from the forest hills in his chiefdom to another place.

Recently the department of forestry recently issued an eviction notice to people living around Kalomo hills forestry.

But chief Chikanta says traditional leaders in the district have rejected the notice saying they were not consulted.

Chief Chikanta states that people living around Kalomo hills forestry have lived in the area for over 50 years.

He says he is therefore left to wonder why they were not displaced during the construction of Kariba dam.
