It’s not unusual to win elections amid hardships – Mumba

MMD president Nevers Mumba says Zambia’s future depends on collective ability to confront and correct corrupted systems.

Dr.  Mumba says this means that it is currently unwise for any opposition political party to rush in taking part in elections.

He has told QTV News that this is the reason why his party the MMD believes that dialogue on the electoral process is a must if tensions are to reduce in the nation.

Dr. Mumba says stakeholders should first concentrate on correcting and cleaning up the electoral process.

He states that it is however not unusual for a ruling party to win by-elections in the face of harsh economic conditions.

Dr. Mumba, who is also former Republican Vice President, says results of most elections do not in fact have connection to the pain, concerns and needs of electorates.

He recalls that even at the height of the MMD’s unpopularity, which was then the ruling party it swept all by-elections not until the 2011 general elections.

Dr. Mumba says this entails that Zambia’s electoral process and those of many other African Countries hardly addresses the views and wishes of the people.

He is suggesting that not until this anomaly is addressed, Zambia and many other African Countries shall continue experiencing the same electoral outcomes.
