Economic and Equity Party (EEP) Secretary General Winfred Silumbwe says the bringing together of PF and UPND to discuss and  sign violence free commitment document is an exercises in futility as it does not in any way address the root cause of political violence.

Mr. Silumbwe says her party is highly doubtful that the violence free agreement signed by the most violent political parties in the country will really deter them from engaging in violence because they lack the will.

He says EEP understands that the law is there for all political parties to follow by not engaging in violence, yet they ignore the Law of the land and engage in violence.

Mr. Silumbwe states that it is also well covered in electoral code of conduct, which political parties sign to commit themselves to violence free campaigns but they forget this commitment.

He adds that there is nothing new in that document which is not covered by the law and the electoral code of conduct.

The EEP Chief Executive Officer says this is the reason why dialogue process facilitated by ZCID is important as it will look on finding the lasting solutions including the amendment of the constitution.
