‘Government may default repayment of three Eurobonds’-Sinkamba

Sinkamba GreensGreen Party president, Peter Sinkamba fears Zambia is likely to default the repayment of the three Eurobonds if certain measures are not put in place.

Mr. Sinkamba tells QTV News that while Zambia is expected to start repaying the first US$750 million Eurobond which is due in 2022, the US$1 billion and the US$1.25 billion Eurobonds which fall due in 2024 and 2026 respectively, as things stand, the government has no capacity to pay the three Eurobonds that stand at US$3 billion.

He says this is the more reason why his party has since 2015 been advocating for workable measures that would help the nation in repaying the three Eurobonds.

Mr. Sinkamba argues that Zambia cannot manage to repay the Eurobonds using the current revenue streams unless the government comes up with workable interventions.
