Govt saves over K1 billion from e-voucher

Smart Zambia National Coordinator, Dr. Martin Mtonga has disclosed that government has saved about K1.28 billion after removing about 761,000 replicated farmers from the E-Voucher system.

Speaking during a PF Media Interactive Forum in Lusaka, Dr. Mtonga says the Zambia Integrated Agriculture Management Information system recorded a total of 1.6 million farmers when it was supposed to record one million farmers.

He says after looking into the system, the number of beneficiaries was reduced to 839, 000 farmers with the Ministry of Agriculture adding more farmers to reach the one million targeted farmers.

Dr. Mtonga has also disclosed that a total of 23,000 jobs have been created following the rolling out the E-Voucher system.

Speaking at the same event, Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo advised farmers to deposit their K400 contribution towards the farming inputs in readiness for the coming farming season.

Mr Katambo says farmers should make their contributions before 30th August so that the government starts to load the K1, 700 contributions.
