Govt says 2018/2019 FISP distribution will commence on 1st September

Minister of Agriculture, Michael Katambo has announced that government will commence the distribution of supplies under the Farmer Input Support Program for the 2018/2019 framing season on 1st September, 2018.

And a total of K175 million is owed to suppliers of Agro inputs who were contracted during the 2016 to 2018 farming seasons.

Speaking when he delivered a ministerial statement in parliament, Mr. Katambo says under the two approaches of the conventional FISP and e-voucher programs, government’s target is to reach one million farmers.

Mr. Katambo says the framer contribution towards the inputs will be maintained at K400 while government will contribute K1,700.

He has stated that for some districts, government will directly procure and distribute fertilizer and assorted seed varieties to framers while in other districts, targeted beneficiaries will be serviced through the e-voucher system using the card less mechanism.

And Mr. Katambo has attributed delay in clearing suppliers who are owed money to the lengthy verification process.
