Government has noted the need for a strong regulator as the country looks to invest in Nuclear Technology.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretaries for Administration and Technical Services, Dr. Jabbin Mulwanda says it is important that a strong regulatory framework is put in place in order to safely use nuclear technology.

Dr. Mulwanda has however, reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Speaking when he officiated at the Atomic Energy Agency Mid-Term coordination meeting in Lusaka, Dr. Mulwanda says the meeting will provide the member States with the capabilities to develop and maintain a consistent high level of safety for the transport of radioactive materials within their regions.

Speaking at the same event, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director Technical Cooperation, Shaukar Abdukrezak has commended the Zambian government through the Radiation Protection Authority (RPA) for committing to building competent authority effectiveness on regulating the transport of radioactive materials.
