Teachers in the country have been advised to go for periodic medical check-ups to prevent them from avoidable deaths and other ailments.

Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) Public Relations Manager Joe Kasaka has expressed concern at rate at which teachers are dying in the country.

Mr. Kasaka has disclosed that just in June alone over 10 teachers a situation he said is worrying.

He says most deaths could be avoided, if people underwent regular medical screening to know their health status.

Mr. Kasaka has told Q-news that there is need to start sensitizing the teachers on how they are supposed to indulge themselves in terms of illnesses, check their physical fitness and go for checkups so that they are able to see the levels of their Blood Pressure.

He says it is for this reason that the Union through the department of Occupational Health, they will be conducting workshops for teachers aimed at sensitizing the teachers on the need for them to go for checkups so as to sustain themselves.

Mr. Kasaka says the workshops are part of the Union’s effort that teachers are in good health.
