Govt revising National Transport Policy

Transport and Communications Minister Brian Mushimba says government is revising National Transport Policy in order to respond to emerging issues in the domestic and international environment.

The Transport and Communications Minister has also disclosed that government has made headways in the railway industry with feasibility study and engineering designs completed for Greenfield Nseluka- Mpulungu to be developed at a total cost of US$990 million.

Speaking during the season 2 PF interactive Forum in Lusaka, Mr. Mushimba says the revision of the National Transport Policy will also result in effective regulation of the water transport in the country.

Mr. Mushimba also says plans are under way to revise Road Transport Act in order to reduce the age for motorists to get PSV license from the current 25to 20 years.

And Mr. Mushimba is confident that the national airline will be officially launched on 24th October which was closed in 1994.

Mr. Mushimba says the launch of the national carrier will allow Zambia to partake in the US$1.5 billion Zambian aviation market.
