Lusaka woman strangled to death after being raped

A twenty eight year old woman of Lusaka’s George Compound has been found dead suspected to have been strangled and might have been raped.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo tells QTV News in a statement that police in Lusaka received a report of murder which happened on 23rd January, 2018 at about 06:00 hours at a makeshift store near George Central Primary School in George Compound.

Ms Katongo says the report was made by members of the public that they found a body of a woman in a makeshift store who was later identified by relatives.

She says police visited the scene and suspect that the deceased aged 28 was strangled and might have been raped.

Ms Katongo states that the body is in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem and that investigations have been instituted in the matter.

Meanwhile, Police in Lusaka yesterday at about 16:00 hours gunned down four criminals in Kalundu area.

This was after they received a tip off from members of the public that there was a group of six armed criminals driving an unregistered Toyota Spacio who were about to stage a robbery within Kalundu.

Ms Katongo says officers rushed to the area and spotted the Silver Spacio at the T- junction of Mulungushi road and after noticing the presence of Police, the criminals whilst firing at the officers U-turned and sped off.

She explains that police gave chase and when they were catching up with them, four criminals came out of the vehicle trying to escape and were caught up with the bullets while two who were armed with an AK 47 riffle escaped using the said motor vehicle.

She discloses that those shot dead were found with a Pistol Crvena Zastava-cal, two black bags containing four masks, a machete, two hummers and a manmade crowbar.

And in another development, three people have died in an accident at Mutenguleni Area along Great East Road.

Ms Katongo says the accident happened on 22nd January, 2018 around 20:00 hours.

She explains that  involved was a broken down vehicle namely Sedon Truck registration number ALE 5098 packed by Mbao Moses aged 45 years of Mchini Compound facing the direction of West on the left side of the road.

Ms Katongo explains that also involved was a Volvo Truck and Trailer Registration number BAF 139 and Trailer Registration number BAE 8850 driven by unknown driver along Great East Road from the direction of East to West carrying three passengers.

The Police Spokesperson furthermore states that the accident happened when the driver of the Volvo Truck and Trailer failed to keep to near side and hit into the stationary motor vehicle.

She says the driver of the Volvo Truck and his two unknown men passengers aged between 25 and 35 sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.
