Nurses urged to give profession good image

Terry MusondaHealth Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) public relations officer Terry Musonda has urged recruited nurses and midwives to be professional in the discharge of their duties, to ensure their continuous stay in the profession.

Mr. Musonda says reports from patients about poor treatment from nurses at health facilities, should be a wake-up call for them to improve upon their performances.

He says the students joining the profession at a time that its image is under public scrutiny due to large perceived or real poor attitude towards work and clients that they serve.

Mr. Musonda adds that the students has a responsibility to project a positive image of their chosen profession by living responsible lives and frequently upgrading their knowledge, skills and competencies to be abreast of current procedures.

He advised them to abide by the rules and regulations of their training institutions bearing in mind that they are under oath and must not misconduct themselves.

Mr. Musonda says health practitioners should exhibit high levels of commitment and nurturing in providing care to the healthy, ill individuals, groups and communities.

He says professionalism is an added value that promotes the quality care and the contribution of practitioners as well a set of values owned and understood by all.
