Government through the Ministry of Justice has been called upon to consider availing Zambians with a final draft bill of the Public Order Act before it is taken to parliament for amendments.

On Friday last week, Justice Minister Given Lubinda announced that government will next year table a bill in parliament to amend the Public Order Act.

Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) President Sean Tembo tells QTV News that it is important that the government makes available the draft bill that will be taken to parliament so that the general public can debate the bill before it’s tabled before parliament.

Mr. Tembo says this will also accord stakeholders a chance to see if it is in line with their submissions to the Ministry of Justice.

And Movement for National Transformation (MNT) President Daniel Shimunza says if the PF Government means well, his party welcomes efforts to amend the draconian Public Order Act.

Mr. Shimunza says there is need for the government to ensure stakeholders are happy with the proposed amendments.

Meanwhile, Governance Activist Leslie Chikuse is confident that if amended, the Public Order Act will bring sanity on the political front.

Mr. Chikuse says this will also work well in line with the much talked about political dialogue as this piece of legislation has been identified as a source of conflict amongst political players.
