Home Affairs Minister Steven Kampyongo says the security situation in the country remains calm.

Mr Kampyongo says this is despite the negative campaign waged to portray the country as a dictatorship following the arrest of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema for treason.

He has told Parliament in a ministerial statement on the security situation in the country that government will continued to uphold the law fairly, but firmly.

Mr Kampyongo says the calm security situation can be seen from how citizens are going about their business peacefully, while the country has continued to be an attractive destination for both local and foreign investment.

And Mr Kampyongo says prison authorities have the responsibility to determine where to keep people under their custody be it remandees or convicts.

Responding to a supplementary question by Chitambo Member of Parliament Remember Mutale who wanted to find out if remandees have the right to choose which correctional facility they should be detained from and if visitors can visit them at will, Mr Kampyongo says remandees have no right to choose where they should be detained.
