The National Union for Public and Private Educators of Zambia (NUPPEZ) has appealed to the Ministry of General Education and the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) to establish a payroll management and establishment control (PEMC) code which will enable teachers on government payroll to flexibly pay for the TCZ fees.

And the teacher union believes the TCZ fees can be reduced.

NUPPEZ Public Relations Officer Ngoza Malonga says the PEMC Code will help teachers pay the fees flexibly as compared to the once-off payments needed for registration and licensing.

She has observed the need for the government and the teaching council to establish a deduction code for the Teaching council of Zambia fees.

She says more importantly, the union believes the fees can be reduced further downwards to say ten kwacha per month.

Ms Malonga says in some places like Kaputa, teachers are expected to travel all the way to Kasama or so to make one-off deposits of the TCZ fees as some districts have no ZANACO facilities.

The NUPPEZ Spokesperson says the teachers end up spending highly due to overhead costs on transport and at times lodging.
