Construction of COMESA HQ to commence this year

SindisoCOMESA Secretary General Sindiso Ngwenya says the construction of COMESA headquarters near Chongwe District will commence before the end of 2017.

Mr. Ngwenya has told QTV News that there is a scheduled meeting of the COMMESA Technical Committee and ministers from seven member states to make a decision in July this year.

He is confident that the construction works will begin before the end of the year.

Government has allocated more than 10 acres of land, 700 kilometers away from Chongwe, for the development of the new COMESA headquarters.

Meanwhile Mr. Ngwenya has confirmed that COMESA has concluded negotiations for Libya and Tunisia to become member states.

He says the two countries have met conditions for membership and the negotiations are now complete.

Mr. Ngwenya adds that COMESA is also engaged in negotiations with Somalia and Algeria who have also signaled their intentions to join other member states.

He has since stated that COMMESA is expanding and may account for almost 50 percent of the African Union membership from 54 states.
