UPND Chairman for Rural reconstruction and Development Moono Mapani has urged the government to start the early distribution of farming inputs for the 2017/18 farming season.

Mr. Mapani says before the onset of the rains, the nation has three months in which to prepare for the forthcoming farming season.

Mr. Mapani says the PF Government lacks seriousness when it comes to the management of agricultural activities.

He says any reasonable government would learn from the previous hiccups and see to it that the forthcoming season is managed well.

Mr. Mapani has told QTV News that three quarters of Zambia’s population are farmers and thus the need to be serious when dealing with this sector.

He says the government should not wait until the onset of the rains saying it will be too late for the farmers to prepare well for the farming season.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mapani has advised farmers to avoid selling their maize cheaply to briefcase buyers.
