The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflections (JCTR) says there is need for government to provide alternative measures to cushion the impending removal of fuel, agriculture and electricity subsidies.

JCTR Programs Officer Innocent Ndashe says the cost of living has increased and majority Zambians are struggling to make a living hence the need to consider such measures when removing subsidies.

He says in order to reduce poverty levels in the country, government should consider maintaining the current electricity subsidies because it has been a cushion to production.

He notes that the agriculture sector which is the main economical activity for most people in Zambia has not been doing well which has contributed to the high poverty levels in the country.

And Mr Ndashe adds that the massive load shedding has also contributed to the increasing levels of poverty as the income of most people has reduced.
