President Edgar Lungu has used his thanks giving rally following his re-election to call for unity in the country.

Addressing thousands of supporters at Woodlands stadium in Lusaka this afternoon, President Lungu thanked Zambians both those who voted for him and those who did not vote for him.

He says he is grateful for the 252 votes he got from Dundumwezi constituency saying without them he would not have attained the over 50% winning threshold.

President Lungu has also called for forgiveness among people in the country, calling on all presidential candidates who took part in the elections to go back to their supporters and preach peace and oneness.

He has since pledged to unite the country and take development to all parts of the country even to areas where he got the least votes, stating that he is there to serve the people of Zambia.

President Lungu briefly interrupted his speech to ask the people who were carrying a mock coffin of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to put it down saying such actions were provocative.

And President Lungu says the UPND cannot frustrate the will of the people by going to the Constitutional Court to petition his election.

He says Zambians will wait for the outcome of the petition.

President Lungu says the Court should be given latitude to hear the petition.

He states that this is not to say that the elections were rigged, stating it was very clear from the start that he was headed for victory as all Parallel Voter Tabulations indicated that he was winning.
