Lungu commissions Mansa-Luwingu road

President Edgar Lungu has commissioned the 175 kilometers Mansa-Luwingu road under the Link Zambia 8000 project constructed at a total cost of over US$150 million.

President Lungu says Government has placed priority on road infrastructure development because roads had the capacity to open up areas to economic development through agriculture, tourism, trade and other sectors which depend on a good road network.

Speaking when he commissioned the road in Luwingu District today, President Lungu says Zambia could not attain meaningful development in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, trade and commerce without a good road network.

He says the road whose construction started in 2013 will boost agriculture and other sectors in Lupososhi and Northern province as a whole.

And speaking earlier, Works and Supply Minister Yamfwa Mukanga says government is working at improving roads and other economic sectors in order to reduce the country’s over-dependence on mining.

He says government is spending huge sums of money to construct roads, calling on Zambians to guard the infrastructure against vandalism.

Mr. Mukanga says roads provide an opportunity to improve all economic sectors and that people should not vandalize the infrastructure because it is constructed at a high cost.

And Speaking at the same event Northern Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe says Government would continue to ensure the province is developed.
