Police raid UPND campaign center

Police in Lusaka have staged a predawn raid on the UPND campaign centre forcing their way into the building located in Rhodespark residential area.

Party members found at the offices were taken in for questioning.

It is not clear what the Police officers were looking for at the opposition party’s campaign center.

And UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka has described the raid by paramilitary officers as part of the continued persecution and abuse of party officials and property.

Mr Katuka has wondered on what grounds the assault was conducted, stating that the raided office is a regular campaign centre, coordinating some of the party’s efforts to new and existing members in Lusaka and beyond.

He has questioned what the suspicion was and where the evidence to suggest that there was any legitimate reason for the raid.

Mr Katuka says the UPND will not be intimidated by such moves and will continue to speak out against such injustices.
