The United Party for National Development (UPND) says it is malicious to suggest that its leader Hakainde Hichilema was denied entry into neighboring Zimbabwe.

Party Spokesperson Charles Kakoma says Mr Hichilema is not aware of an invitation to that country for any activity.

Mr Kakoma says the UPND leader is busy with by-election campaigns at the moment.

He states that Mr Hichilema is currently a holder of a passport that allows him to enter any country as he has no criminal records or travel restrictions to any country including Zimbabwe, which also happens to be a Commonwealth country.

Mr Kakoma says Zambia and Zimbabwe share a lot of politic, economic, and historic heritage that binds the two people together.

Meanwhile the UPND says it will take appropriate legal action against individual Police Officers who are grossly violating the fundamental rights of its members.

UPND Chairperson for Legal, Jack Mwiimbu says his party has taken note of gross and wanton violation of its members’ fundamental rights yesterday and today by Police in Solwezi.

Mr. Mwiimbu says the attempt by Police in Solwezi to cancel the campaign meetings of UPND President Hakainde Hichilema is not only despicable but also unacceptable.

He says Zambia is not a Police state, where the Police do whatever they wish.

He states that Zambians have fundamental human rights that are protected by the constitution.

Mr Mwiimbu says individual Police officers will be held accountable for the actions.
