The Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has closed seventy two illegal drug stores in Lusaka in the first half of the year.

And the authority has recorded about thirty three prosecutions with twenty five convictions so far, while eight cases are still active in court.

ZAMRA Public Relations Officer Ludovic Mwape says the authority closed four illegal drug stores in Mumbwa district and eight in Ndola.

Meanwhile Mr. Mwape has bemoaned the continued abuse of antibiotic drugs in the country more especially by children.

Mr. Mwape has explained to QFM News that the danger of children abusing these antibiotics is that they might become resistant to drugs in the future.

Mr. Mwape states that it is for this reason that the authority is raising awareness and ensuring that people have correct information about drugs.
