FFTUZ threatens mass demostrations

The Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) says it will not allow workers to be threatened with dismissal when there is room for constructive dialogue.

FFTUZ President Chingati Msiska in a statement says his union therefore joins the ZCTU in condemning Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili for threatening CBU lecturers with dismissal.

Mr Msiska says workers must not be threatened with dismissal, but rather be called to the table for further dialogue, stating that there is a platform where the unionized workers, management, the student body and government can meet and find a way forward.

He states that threats will only aggravate the situation and plunge the institution into deeper challenges.

Mr Msiska warns that if Mr Kambwili wants to push the labour movement any further, they will respond by carrying out mass demonstrations against the victimization of their members.

He has further appealed to President Edgar Lungu to control such ministers who put the image of government into disrepute in the eyes of the general public.

The FFTUZ President has also advised workers at CBU and ZNBC to bring their issues to the Bargaining Table and avoid disrupting operations at the institutions.
