Govt’s delay to announce maize floor price worries farmers’ network

The Small Scale Farmers Network is worried by government’s delay to announce the maize floor price.

Network President Edward Nsama says though farmers are already selling their maize, they are facing a number of challenges in selling their maize to the private sector.

Mr. Nsama says private buyers are offering very low prices taking advantage of the of the Food Reserve Agency’s absence on the market.

He states that it is easier for farmers to negotiate good prices when government has announced the maize floor price.

Mr. Nsama adds that the private buyers are ripping the farmers who have been left with no option in view of the absence of the FRA from the market.

He has however appealed to the farmers to use their negotiating skills and negotiate for better prices with private buyers and not allow to be exploited.
