The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) believes the swift action by the Police is crucial in ending political violence in the country.

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says as the country prepares for the 2016 general elections, his organization is encouraging the Zambia Police to sustain the swiftness with which it responded to the recent attack on opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema in Kitwe.

Mr. Cheembe says SACCORD takes such swift action which led to the apprehension of suspected perpetrators of the attack on Mr. Hichilema, as a confidence building measure in the Police service.

He has told Qfm News that Police have shown that they can be committed to ending political violence in Zambia.

Mr. Cheembe states that the arrest and prosecution of perpetrators of the attack on the UPND leader has actually sent a message that no one can engage in political violence in Zambia with impunity.
