South chiefs urged to shun meeting with Lungu

Chiefs from Southern Province have been urged not to shun tomorrow’s scheduled meeting with President Edgar Lungu in view of the resolution from yesterday’s Chuundu meeting of Tonga speaking people held in Monze.

The Chuundu resolved that President Lungu should dismiss Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili, PF Secretary General Davies Chama and his deputy Mumbi Phiri over their alleged derogatory remarks against the Tonga speaking people, failure to which Tuesday’s meeting called by the President with traditional leaders from Southern Province should not take place.

But Governance Activist Maurice Malambo has told QFM News in a walk in interview that Chiefs should ignore such calls and proceed with their planned meeting with the Head of State.

Mr. Malambo says the importance of the meeting cannot be overemphasized as it is aimed at reconciliation.

Mr. Malambo says it is worrying that Zambians are still struggling to adapt to the new system of conflict management which is dialogue.

He has since encouraged traditional leaders from Southern Province to use tomorrow’s meeting with President Lungu as a platform to air out their grievances and bring to the attention of the president issues they are not happy with.
