ECZ extends voter registration in three provinces

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says it will extend the mobile voter registration exercise in Copperbelt, Luapula and Northwestern provinces from 12th November,2015 to 31st January,2016 at an additional cost of K60 billion.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Crispin Akufuna in a statement made availabAkufunale to QFM News today says this is to provide an opportunity for eligible citizens in these areas who will only be issued with National Registration Cards (NRCs) during the final phase of the exercise to register as voters.

Mr Akufuna says the extension of the mobile voter registration in the three provinces was agreed upon with political parties during the ECZ/Political parties Liason Committee meeting held on 23rd June, 2015.

He states that the Commission had planned to end the mobile voter registration on 11th November, 2015 in all the 10 provinces, but that the Department of National Registration, Passport and Citizenship will only be in its third and last phase of the issuance of NRCs in the three affected provinces from November, 2015 to January, 2016.

The mobile voter registration exercise is expected to commence in September this year.
