Sundowns beat Mufulira Wanderers

Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday kicked off their five-day pre-season camp in Zambia on a bright note after beating promoted Faz Super League club Mufulira Wanderers 1-0.

The winning goal came in the first half at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe in a match Pitso Mosimane started homeboy Kennedy Mweene in goals while Mario Booysens, Surprise Moriri and Cuthbert Malajila as some of the other notable starters.

Wanderers made a flying start in the friendly dominating the first ten minutes of the match led by their creative midfielder Moses Naymbe.

Lameck Silwaba failed to beat Mweene from close range in the 6th minute before Sundowns hit gear after opening quarter.

It took Sundowns just 18 minutes for them to score the winner through Antony Laffor who converted a penalty after Silwaba fouled Siyanda Zwane in the box and Jani Sikwaze pointed to the spot.

Wanderers were then restricted to one chance thereafter in the 45th minute when Brian Ambugeni’s shot was parried by Mweene.

Sundowns almost added a second goal in the 82nd minute but second half substitute Khaya Shozi hit the post.

The Brazilians play defending Super League champions Zesco on Wednesday in Ndola after Nkana, who were scheduled to play them on the same date, withdrew from the friendly due to technical reasons.

Sundowns will wrap-up their three-match pre-season series on Thursday with a date against Nkana’s late replacement Forest Rangers in Ndola.
