Govt reassures farmers on floor price

Government has reassured farmers in the country not to worry that they will be affected negatively by the delay to announce the floor price for maize.

Agriculture and Livestock Deputy Minister Greyford Monde says government is fully aware that farmers are ready to sell their maize stocks.Greyford-Monde

Mr. Monde says government also understands that maize production is a business and therefore its maize floor price should not be considered as the ultimate price for the market.

He has told Qfm News in an interview that farmers should therefore be encouraged to sell their produce at a price they believe is better than that of the government.

Mr. Monde states that it is for this reason that government does not want to impose a price on the market as it is also mindful that its price might be lower than what the demand for commodity will be.

He explains that his Ministry is currently observing trends with the view of seeing what the market will dictate.
