Wina dismisses reports Lungu disrespected Tonga chiefs

Vice president Inonge Wina has dismissed media reports that suggested that President Edgar Lungu referred to Tonga chiefs in his utterances upon arrival from Malawi recently.

Ms. Wina says a lot of what President Lungu said in his interaction with the media at the Kenneth Kaunda International airport in Lusaka has actually been taken out of context.

She has disclosed that the President is in fact looking forward to dialoguing with the aggrieved Chiefs of Southern Province over the alleged derogatory remarks attributed to PF Secretary General Davis Chama.

Ms. Wina says the Head of State would like to meet with the chiefs because he wants to put to an end all issues that seemingly are at the verge of dividing the nation.

She was responding to a question by Kalomo Member of Parliament Request Muntanga during her question time in Parliament this morning.

Mr. Muntanga wanted to know whether Mr. Chama’s sentiments of the people of Southern Province are now the official position of government especially in the absence of an official statement Ms. Wina recently promised would be made.

And Ms. Wina says government will at an appropriate time make it know when it will be considered to restore former President Rupiah Banda’s immunity now that he has been cleared by the Courts of law for alleged wrong doing.
She says to this effect she will give the House an idea in its next sitting.

The vice president has however assumed that for the fact that Mr. Banda’s immunity was stripped by Parliament a similar process may be used to restore his immunity.

She was responding to a question by Chadiza Member of Parliament Allan Mbewe who wanted to know when government will restore Mr. Banda’s immunity now that he has been found with no case to answer on one Count of Abuse of Authority of Office relating to a Nigerian Oil deal.
