Closure of CBU is another case of mismanagement – HH

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has charged that the closure of the Copperbelt University is another case of mismanagement by the Ministry of Education.

Mr Hichilema says the ministry has failed to engage the with the lecturers, Researchers, Teachers and the students alike.

He laments that little attention is being paid to secure the longevity and successes of universities across Zambia, especially when 82% of the population are below 25 years old and desperate for an education.

Mr Hichilema says Zambians youths require a good quality education to unlock and actualize their own potential and that of the country in order for the economy to grow.

He states that the PF government’s performance on education has been nothing short of shameful.

The UPND leader notes that the decision by Education Minister Michael Kaingu to close the Copperbelt University has far reaching consequences including inconveniencing those self-sponsored students who have paid their rentals in advance.

Mr Hichilema adds that Parents with students coming from far flung places have to look for transport money for transport back home when the closure of the university is not the fault of the students

He states that the students are on firm ground to call for amicable resolution of the problems that have dogged the institution for years and are being exacerbated by an incompetent management appointed by the PF government.
